At a committee meeting held on the 20th of April 2022, final decisions were made for the centennial celebrations. That means that the plans for that weekend are set in concrete and there will be no changes unless I find it is necessary.
The club was formed on the 5th of November 1922 and our Centennial Dinner will be held in our clubrooms on Saturday 5th of November 2022. The following day, Sunday 6th of November, a Centennial Tournament will be held for both Association Croquet players and Golf Croquet players. Members from all croquet clubs can join our members for both the dinner and the tournament. The poster, program, forms to fill in will be placed on our website which will be kept open all through the winter. The price of tickets for the catered dinner will be $35.00 per person for croquet players and their partners. A non-alcoholic punch will be available, BYO alcohol. We will be making quite an occasion of that weekend with a Flapper/Gadsby/1920’s themed dinner. Members, dressed in Flapper/Gadsby attire, will arrive at the gate of our croquet club at 5.00pm on Saturday 5th of November in vintage cars with invited dignitaries. There will be a photo session of the vintage cars and those in Flapper/Gadsby attire from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. We have our designated photographer and media attending but everyone is welcome to take their own photos. We have hired a professional entertainer and master of ceremonies for the Saturday evening. We would like everyone to get into the spirit of the occasion by wearing the themed attire. There are a few places that the appropriate vintage attire can be purchased from, at relatively low prices. To get an idea of what the theme would be, I recommend that you look online at https://www.funidelia.co.nz/costumes/20s-flapper-burlesque but there are also others online if you search for vintage clothing or else pop into Pete’s Emporium in Lower Hutt to see what they have. The clubrooms will be decorated to give the occasion a celebratory atmosphere. A template at A1 Embroidery of the Centennial logo will be paid for by the club and members can take (or buy there in the shop) polo shirts or other items to be embroidered at their own cost of $7.50 per item. I am in the process of researching and writing a Waimarie Hutt Valley Croquet Club Centennial Book, which I hope to have finished by the end of October and then will add the photos from the Saturday and Sunday 5/6 November and then having an electronic copy of it put on our website – all the more reason to make an effort to dress up! If hard copies are wanted, an order can be placed with me and I will find out how much it will be to have them printed, covered and the spine spiralbound. I am looking forward to this auspicious occasion and hope everyone will join in with enthusiasm. Dawn Dorresteijn, Organiser of the Centennial Weekend. |
